National Education Summit Zimbabwe 2026

In a decisive move to transform educational discourse into tangible action, the flagship National Education Conference and Expo (NECE) is being elevated to the National Education Summit Zimbabwe 2026 (NESZ 2026) . Scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 May 2026 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds in Bulawayo, the Summit marks a strategic shift from dialogue to delivery, aligning policy, investment, and implementation under cohesive national leadership.

The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency, President E. D. Mnangagwa, underscoring the administration’s commitment to education reform as a cornerstone for human capital development and economic transformation.

A Strategic Evolution

Since its inception in 2023, the National Education Conference and Expo has progressively matured from a stakeholder engagement forum into a credible national convening platform. Initiated by Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe (AEZ) and The Business Diary in partnership with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), the platform has grown in scope and influence.

The inaugural edition (2023) focused on sector mapping and aligning non-state actors with government priorities. The second edition (2024) deepened engagement on infrastructure, financing, and digital learning. By the third edition (2025), the platform had matured significantly, attracting senior government officials, school heads, development partners, and innovators under the theme “Transforming Education in Zimbabwe: Embracing Innovation and Excellence.”

The 2026 iteration represents the next logical step: a high-level, outcome-driven national forum designed to complement government processes while mobilizing non-state actors around shared priorities.

Policy Alignment and National Significance

NESZ 2026 is firmly anchored in Zimbabwe’s national development agenda. The Summit aligns with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2) , Vision 2030, the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP) 2026-2030, and the Heritage-Based Education 5.0 Philosophy.

By integrating these frameworks, the Summit will respond directly to pressing national priorities, including:

  • Full implementation and assessment of the Heritage-Based Curriculum.

  • Expansion of education infrastructure and school decongestion.

  • Digital inclusion under the “leave no one and no place behind” agenda.

  • Strengthening inclusive education and non-formal learning pathways.

Objectives and Thematic Focus

Convened over three days, the Summit will combine high-level plenary sessions, technical breakaway discussions, investment roundtables, and a national education exhibition. The primary objectives are to support MoPSE in implementing Heritage-Based Education 5.0, mobilize financing partnerships, and strengthen education leadership and accountability.

The discussions will be structured around six key thematic areas:

  1. Heritage-Based Curriculum Implementation, Assessment & Skills Pathways

  2. Education Infrastructure, Teacher Housing & Sustainable Financing

  3. Digital Transformation, STEM, Innovation & Future Skills

  4. School Safety, Safeguarding, Wellbeing & Mental Health

  5. Inclusive Education, Non-Formal Learning & Lifelong Pathways

  6. Leadership, Governance, Accountability & Equitable Excellence

Bridging Policy and Practice

A key feature of the Summit is the concurrent National Education Expo and Innovation Expo. Serving as a marketplace for solutions, the Expo will bridge the gap between dialogue and implementation. It will showcase:

  • Education infrastructure and construction solutions.

  • Digital learning platforms, EdTech, and STEM tools.

  • Banking, insurance, and education financing products.

  • Tertiary, vocational, and skills development institutions.

  • Private sector services ranging from logistics and energy to content development.

Expected Outcomes

The Summit is designed to produce tangible results rather than mere dialogue. Organizers anticipate several key outcomes:

  • Actionable policy recommendations aligned with MoPSE priorities.

  • Structured implementation and financing partnerships.

  • A mobilized national education investment pipeline.

  • Strengthened coordination between government and stakeholders.

  • A National Education Summit Communiqué and accountability framework to track progress.

Institutional Oversight and Conclusion

To ensure policy coherence and protocol compliance, the organizers—led by AEZ—will work under the strategic guidance and oversight of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. This institutional arrangement guarantees accountability and the sustainability of outcomes.

As Zimbabwe accelerates toward Vision 2030, the National Education Summit Zimbabwe 2026 represents a pivotal moment for the education sector. By convening policymakers, financiers, innovators, and practitioners under one roof, the Summit aims to ensure that the nation’s education system is not only well-planned but also well-executed—truly moving “From Policy to Practice.”
